SAHRC's adult health programs are educational and behavioral lifestyle interventions designed to prevent obesity, diabetes, and associated chronic conditions. These programs extend SAHRC's research-based approach beyond schools and into community and clinical settings.
Medicare's Intensive Behavioral Therapy for Obesity (IBTO)
Bienestar Adult Healthy Lifestyle Program
An educational and behavioral therapy curriculum designed to support the prevention and management of obesity and diabetes in adults.
The program emphasizes nutrition education, healthier eating patterns, physical activity, goal-setting, self-monitoring, and modest safe weight loss.
Can be delivered in community centers, schools, wellness worksites, and physician practices.
SAHRC reports improved weight outcomes among participants with higher program attendance. Participants attending more than eight sessions showed meaningful improvements in body mass index (BMI) and body weight.

National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP)
SAHRC offers the CDC-recognized National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP).
Focuses on healthy eating, physical activity, and prevention of obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. The program also promotes a 5–7% modest weight loss from initial body weight as a key health milestone.
SAHRC received the 2 Star CDC-recognition for operating the National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP).
According to CDC data, participation in structured lifestyle programs like DPP can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58% overall and 71% for individuals over age 60.
